Taxi driver and I discuss the architecture of Balwyn and fare evaders... We get Mum and taxi driver tries all his best jokes - less than half of which does Mum understand. It's very amusing to watch from the backseat.
To the airport and across to the cattle class departure lounge where there are a couple of people queuing up. One or two join the queue, which starts a flow of people joining the queue - for the plane that hasn't even arrived yet!
Then we're on the plane and off. Girl behind us is having a very animated conversation with the couple next to her, suggesting all sorts of travel ideas. They do seem to have a few ideas themselves but that doesn't deter her.
I still hate flying but it is quick and painless. And we arrive...
Hobart airport is undergoing renovations so there is nowhere to get a much-desired coffee so we go to pick up the hire car with the idea of getting one (a coffee) on the way into town. For some reason the Avis counter is the busiest so we wait a while. And then we get the little car and head off, with only a vague idea of how to get there!
Over the massive bridge and randomly end up in almost the right place, bit of a round-the-block and then park by Constitution Dock (is that the name). We have a very picturesque walk around part of the bay - lots to look at, it's very pretty and atmospheric but no coffee...
Back into the car and we drive into the general vicinity, go though Salamanca Place and to the end, where we find Runnymede and there is our hotel and it's lovely - Lenna of Hobart.
And outside our room...
And inside...
After a quick settle in, we're walking literally three minutes to Salamanca Place and strolling along, looking at the restaurants for a potential spot for breakfast and somewhere to have a coffee. Finally find a lovely spot to,get a coffee and a toasted cheese.
Then back and wandering into a few of the shops - there are some magnificent shops here with some lovely things. Into the wool shop where Mum tried a few things. She's after a casual something in between a jacket and a cardigan. Found something that fits the bill and is really nice. She's going to sleep on it - thinking about which colour...
And I took a photo in the wool shop and got myself in there too...
This poncho is almost the winner!
Then back to the hotel for a bit. Then I wanted to have a look around Battery Point so wandered up through to Arthur's Circus...
Past the little village with the gorgeous homes...
And up to St Georges Church, which is just beautiful.
Then strolled back to the hotel for a bit of an explore there. It's a beautiful old Heritage building. Had a peep in the restaurant - which is as close as I'll get to that as it is slightly (!) expensive! Then up to McGregors Lookout on up the top - you go up two flights and then up a creaky ladder to see the spectacular view.
Then around the back to a lovely park with a few dogs running around.
It really is a beautiful location.
Finally, back to pick up Mum and we go down to find somewhere to have dinner. We wandered around for a while, looking at all the different options. There was the most spectacular sunset over Salamanca Place. This sort of shows it...
We found a great place and sat tucked away up the back. I tried to turn on the flash to take a photo but did something odd and set a timer or something coz it just started zooming and focussing and taking a series of photos one after the other, so I got a couple of the wall, one of half a table and one of my tacos, so I'm putting that photo in because of the trouble it took.
Delicious tacos with salsa verde, pumpkin, caramelised onion, pepper, haloumi and something green, very yum.
I really should have read the instruction booklet for that camera!
